It all started back when I was setting up my very first social media account โ on Myspace, of all places.
At the time, I was an early adopter of new tech. My nieces and nephews were already busy creating their Myspace profiles, and naturally, I wanted to join them. Encouraged by the fact that most adults I knew had no clue what Myspace even was โ or didnโt care โ I decided to dive in.
When it came time to pick a username, I wanted something personal, something meaningful. Thatโs when “Squib Girl” came to mind.
You see, Iโve been a lifelong Harry Potter fan. My own family history traces back to the witch trials of Salem, and with that kind of lineage, you’d think there might be some magic in my blood. But alas, no magical abilities ever manifested.
For years, I used to joke to myself: “I must be a squib.”

And just like that, the name Squib Girl was born โ a blend of fandom, family history, and a little bit of magic that lives on to this day.
